Another good day in DC! This morning, we all parted ways to go join the work force. NASA’s interns took a beautiful walk past the Capitol and the Library of Congress and took the Marc train to Baltimore. The cold was biting and whipped around in the morning, resulting in cold noses and red ears.  They got to see atmospheric science labs that use lidar lasers and mini satellites called HARP (Hyper-Angular Rainbow Polarimeter). The satellite was about the size of a large loaf of bread, is much more cost effective, and can collect almost the same amount of data as their larger counterparts. It was very fun to see the future of atmospheric science!

Meanwhile at Capitol Hill, the Jimterns (Congressman Cooper’s interns) and the Burnterns (Senator Blackburn’s interns) both attended William Barr’s confirmation hearing and heard history being made. The Jimterns also attended the energy efficiency hearings that were civilian corporations that worked with congress staff. The interns working at Senator Lamar Alexander’s office met hit for the first time! They were all surprised how laid back and outgoing he was.

At dinner, we all came together at Old Ebbitt Grill which is an icon in DC culture. It’s Victorian style and good food stood out as great dinner conversations about the day started. We were all very tired from the long day and after having a very filling meal, we took the metro home and filtered into our new rooms.
